The Little House on the Prairie star swears by this under-$10 product.
Melissa Gilbert is on a mission to normalize aging. The Modern House on the Prairie star recently told Prevention that she’s never been in a better place and that her days of Botox and fillers are behind her. Now, she’s leaning into the years as they come. One way she’s making sure she looks and feels her best is by using beauty products that don’t break the bank. The star revealed the drugstore product she loves for cleansing and toning skin: Garnier’s SkinActive Micellar Water.
“I love it for cleaning, toning—you know sometimes I don’t really feel like washing my face but the micellar water on a cotton pad [is great],” she says.
Micellar water is a great way to remove makeup, dirt, and cleanse the face, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Most micellar waters are made with purified water, moisturizers, and mild surfactants. It’s beloved by many with all types of skin thanks to its gentleness.
She’s not the only fan of the product. Drew Barrymore has long touted the benefits of the same product. With over 50,000 ratings and nearly five stars, Amazon reviewers can’t get enough of it either. “I’ve tried a lot of micellar waters. I’ve even tried very high-end expensive ones and they all burn my eyes. This is the only one that doesn’t and takes off all my makeup, it also doesn’t bother my sensitive skin,” writes one Amazon customer.
“I got shingles in my face. Agony. This cleanser is the only thing that didn’t burn my face or cause more problems. While recovering from shingles, I have had allergic reactions to medication, creams, and sprays. This cleanser has been my only constant source of relief,” writes another.
Affordable beauty products are just one facet of Gilbert’s self-care routine. At 58, she’s just as focused on her mind. In fact, she’s started an entire website to help other women embrace aging, Modern Prairie (use code Modern25 for 25% off through January 31, 2023). “I’ve learned how to be more comfortable in my own skin and appreciative,” she says of getting older.
“It’s the sweet simple things in life that are the best,” she tells Prevention. “It’s pretty simple, if you fight [aging], it gets complicated. I think that’s a Little House [on the Prairie] thing that has carried on through this and the Modern Prairie too. Trying to bring women to a more accepting place. We use the term aging gratefully, not gracefully, gratefully.”
We think Gilbert is aging both gratefully and gracefully. We can’t wait to see what insights and realness she’ll share next.
