Dec. 27—WILLINGTON — Elegant Edge Hair Salon and Day Spa owner Dawn Herdendorf enjoys making people feel beautiful at her Willington salon.
Her staff prides themselves on the customer service they provide.
" We're very down- to-Earth," said Herdendorf, who has been a salon owner since 2006.
Elegant Edge was in Ashford before moving to Willington.
The business has been at 11 Phelps Way in Willington since 2017.
Services offered at the salon include the following hair services: women's, men's and children's haircuts; balayage; ombre; highlights; Redken hair color; hair treatments; updos; hair styling; and Pulp Riot.
The salon also offers pedicures, manicures, facials, skin care, keratin treatments, spray tanning, chemical peels, waxing, keratin treatments, back facials and lash lift and tint.
" We're extremely busy," Herdendorf said.
She said ombre and balayage are popular.
Ombre is a technique in which the hair is colored so that a darker color is at the roots and a lighter color is at the tips. Balayage is a technique in which highlights are hand- painted on the surface of random sections of hair.
" People love it," Herdendorf said, referring to balayage.
She said currently there are only two hairdressers, herself and her employee, and she is looking for three more, as well as a pedicurist.
Herdendorf said she lost employees because of the pandemic and there's a shortage of hairdressers. She has been in the industry for nearly 30 years and has a background in business and cosmetology, as well as undergoing continuing education classes at the Summit program with Redken.
Herdendorf said she enjoys having a " flexible" schedule.
Customers visit the salon from several towns in the area, including Tolland, Stafford, Ellington, Mansfield and Ashford. Many of the customers come from referrals.
"We have great customer service," Herdendorf said. "We're a five-star salon and people love coming to us."

It is open on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a. m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday from 12 to 8 p. m.; Friday from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The business is open on Sunday and Mondays by appointment only.
